mellow yellow

We thought we would do some features on colour combinations.  Colour plays such an important role in a wedding...it's the jumping off point for all of your decor, flowers and even what you are going to wear.  So whether you choose a simple black and white theme or fuschia and orange theme, the colour you choose will set the mood.

One of the hottest colours out there right now is yellow.  I was shopping yesterday with my sister
S, and I noticed that yellow is in every store....from what's leftover from summer, to all the new fall fashions. (On a side note, we found the perfect jeans at J. Crew...the low slung boy cut for me which are soooo soft, don't gape and are just right, the matchstick for S which make her look soooo skinny, perfect!)  The thing I love about yellow is there are so many shades, from lemon to mustard.  Also, yellow is perfect for any season!  Here are some of my favorite pictures from The Knot...

What is your favorite colour combination?  Leave us a comment or send us an email to avocado_kiss {at} yahoo.ca....we would love to hear from you!  Keep checking back for more colour inspiration!

Fashion Tuesday...

I didn't really know this, but Nicole Miller makes wedding dresses. She's not really a designer you find advertising in bridal mags...and if so, usually for bridesmaid's dresses. Of course, then I realized that M wore a Nicole Miller dress, and thought I would do some further investigation!

Be sure to check out the Nicole Miller website here....

Sauble Beach

I was on Yahoo this am and was looking through all the news highlights (my new thing lately is to be informed with what's going on in the world so I can contribute to some adult conversations!!!) and of course, was drawn to the top places to travel. One of the names listed was Sauble Beach in Bruce County (Sauble Falls Provincial Park) and suprised that I had never heard of this place (because I am quite the traveller - sort of) I looked into it. Low and behold it is here in Ontario and on Lake Huron...it looks awesome and they have all sorts of great activites like art shows on the shoreline, barbeques, campfires and there's a tonne of restaurants. They also have some bed and breakfast and cottages for rent if you want to have an extended stay. It looks like they have some type of cool outdoor market too. I think I may just be planning a trip to Sauble Beach next summer with my family.

fall forward?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm looking forward to some fall fashion from J.Crew. I know, I shouldn't get ahead of myself, I love summer so much, but I was totally inspired by my new J. Crew catalogue. I think it's a fall preview, though there was no title on the cover, and it's not online yet.

What's even better, is they had a great feature on their bridal fashion. There is a new dress, which is to die for, and I love the chocolate and purple (or aubergine, so sophisticated!) combo, a totally new look for brown! Here's a peek...

And finally, what I aspire my fall fashion to be....chic, effortless and all about cashmere (now, I just need the wallet for cashmere!)

time for a road trip

Now that M is back from her camping...I'll be roughing it in the car for 2 days. I'll be driving to Massachusetts to visit my sister S this weekend. It's been a while since I've done two days of driving on my own. Some would loathe the task, but I love driving! And when there is no Husband in the car, I can rock out to all the Wilson Phillips and Abba that I want. Not too mention I will see scenery like this...

and this...
and this...
:: from here

I will start off with a drive along the north coast of Lake Superior (which is the first photo, and let me tell you, if you live in Canada and have not done the drive from Sault Sainte Marie to Thunder Bay, you are missing out. This is some of the best scenery you will ever see, and some great beaches too!) Head across into Michigan, get to cross the Mackinac Bridge (second photo). From there head into Ohio, for my first night stop in Cleveland. Then hit a tiny inch of Pennsylvania, and it's the New York Thru Way and Mass Pike from there. I might even leave the gas guzzling SUV at home, and ride in the more fuel efficient convertible...note to self, must remember suntan lotion and a hat...jeez, I hope it doesn't rain.

I better get my ipod charged up and my Sirius satellite radio ready, it's going to be a fun trip! What do you like to listen to on the road? I need some suggestions...

at the beach...

C and I spend alot of time at the beach and our family cottages. I, myself just returned from a "roughing it" vacation at a Provincial Park with some girlfriends. Though I am still trying to mend the hangover headache I've had for 4 days, and clean the bonfire smoke out of my clothes (did I mention I had a good time?) it got me thinking. To "rough it" doesn't mean your sense of fashion has to suffer...I endured endless barbs about the amount of products and cute clothes I brought into the bush with me, though, funny, I don't consider myself a "high maintenance" camper. I found these really great pieces from Land's End and J. Crew that would go a long way in making you look superb, yet bush-like while you spend some time outdoors.

Terry hoodie for 68$. So comfy...

This bathing suit is from Land's End and they have a huge selection of suits for all body shapes - I loved the fact that it has a halter neck and the pattern and colour of this one is great..it also gives you a little bit of coverage.

This is from J. Crew and is a cashmere hoodie which would be great to throw over your bathing suit or a thin tee. It is a little pricey at 198$, but come on people...it's cashmere!!!! Nothing says camping more than cashmere!

This is a great drawstring mini.

Lemon chino shorts...a steal at 42$ and a tissue tee for 24$.

blue suede shoes

Okay, so really these shoes aren't suede, but blue shoes are a fun surprise underneath your wedding dress. Have a look at these!

1. J.Crew: Liza $179.99
2. Emilio Pucci: $239.99
3. Kate Spade: Kali $348.00
4. Nina: Betty $89.95
5. Manolo Blahnik: Something Blue $945 (insane, I know, but the name was perfect!)

my lips are happy

I stopped into my local health food store yesterday. Maybe I'm feeling some guilt about driving my gas guzzling SUV, but I felt like checking out some earth friendly products. Well, it turned out to be a very successful shopping trip.

I picked up some Seventh Generation laundry detergent and fabric softener, which I was very happy to see they made in a "he" formula for my front loading machine. Also good to know that it's perfectly safe for my septic system (which frankly, I never really thought of before). Interesting fact:

I also found Robert's American Gourmet Pirate Booty. My sister turned me onto this snack. Can I just say, this stuff is friggin' AWESOME! It's actually kind of good for you...I could read and understand the ingredients, no words over 10 letters! They make a lot of other great products, so check out their website.

Finally, I found the best lip gloss ever! I'm very excited about this, as I'm very particular about my lip gloss. It is from Alba. I chose the Coconut cream lip gloss. It's not too sticky, just the right amount of shine, reminds me of the beach and tastes yummy! My lips are so happy! Not to mention, Alba has a commitment to making our planet better, read about their environmental practices here.I will now go get back in my gas guzzler...not quite sure I'm ready to part with that yet!

I love a freebie!

Checking up on my list of daily blog reads, I came across a great post about things to make from How About Orange. I felt it deserved more investigation, and to my great surprise, I found a bunch of totally cool downloads from HP...the best part, they are FREE, people! What a great way to start the week.

Here are some great labels that you could use for your wedding or celebration....or really any day, for that matter.

mailing labels

luggage tags, what a great favor for a destination wedding

favor tags for some homemade goodies

Take a look at all the free downloads here, you will never know what you'll find!

time for a do over!

Though I would like to imagine that I make my bed everyday, it just doesn't happen. Which is really a shame, because when my bed is all done up, it looks pretty nice. Do you think that maybe purchasing some new bedding might change my fate? I'm thinking that it's worth a shot...and I love this bedding from Dwell Studio.

You can shop online through their website, and you can also do a search for a store that might be in your neighborhood. Dwell Studio sells home decor, tabletop decor and even some great things for the baby's room.

And, if you are finding their original line a little too pricey, well dontcha know it, they have a line at Target! The featured products at Target are mostly in their baby line, lots of bedding, accessories and furniture, but they do have some stuff for us grownups too!

you don't even need a card!

I love this jewelry from Dogeared. I've been searching for some pretty, delicate necklaces, and these are just what I was looking for. It also made me think that they would be the perfect gift for your bridesmaids. Each piece of jewelry comes packaged with a card that describes it's meaning. I LOVE that! They have specific pieces for your bridesmaids, your mom, for a birthday, for a new baby, for just about anything. And the best part is, they are totally affordable. Be sure to check out their line of bracelets and canvas bags as well. I think I just might need to celebrate myself and order a few!

destination weddings

Again, while I plan my cousin's wedding for her (really, it's me living vicariously through her) I found this company dedicated to planning your destination wedding. Even just going to their website makes you want to travel somewhere hot and exotic.

I love Canada!

Little did I know that we had an amazing bridal magazine in Canada that I had never heard about! It is called Wed Luxe, and they also have a great website. They call themselves Canada's Luxury Wedding magazine, but don't be scared off because you think everything inside will be out of your price range. They have a lot of great ideas....and most importantly, vendors! So far they only list Alberta, B.C. and Ontario vendors, but I'm sure that will change soon. Here are a few of my favorites I found:

These people are truly amazing. I love, LOVE their video production. Please check out their website to view some of their 8mm film samples, you will definitely want them for your event!

In the sweets department, I found Allyson Meredith Cakes. Her confections are definitely a thing of beauty! Just take a look at these yummy delights...

And finally, a spectacular wedding venue in the Eastern suburbs of Toronto, The Miller Lash House. Nestled in Highland Creek, on the Old Kingston Road, this house was built by Miller Lash, a wealthy Toronto businessman, in the early 1900's. It was built in the Arts and Crafts Style, using natural materials, and blends seamlessly into it's surroundings. If you choose to have an reception inside the house, it can seat 50 to 75 people. There is also a spectacular outdoor tent that can seat 200. Every client has exclusive use of the property. If you do choose the tent venue, you can also rent all of the indoor spaces for just another $500...totally worth it! The best part about the tent venue, is that the washrooms are in a quaint stone cottage...no dealing with port-a-potties here! Check out the website, and a slide show of my favorite images.

I think this maybe one of our favorite new websites....so we will let you know what's happening!
