pretty paper garland

When C and I went to Minneapolis a few weeks ago we stopped into Paper Source, and of course, they have all sorts of fantastic things, but on our way out we spotted this really pretty flower garland made of paper. I thought it would look adorable in my daughter's room and we both agreed that it would be great for a bridal shower or even wedding. I added the darker flowers myself and strung it up next to some paper mache lanterns she had made over her bed. The butterflies were also from Paper Source.

two thumbs up!

Baby Mama is a very funny movie! M and I saw it last night, and both loved it. I love Tina Fey and think that 30 Rock is the funniest and most clever show on TV. Amy Poehler, of SNL, is also perfectly cast. If you have never seen her do her Dakota Fanning impression on SNL, you are missing out! The funniest lines in the movie are delivered by her character....lines like "your crazy space car won't let me out". Trust me, it's funny...

Check out the website for funny video clips, like when Amy's character sticks her gum under the coffee table and sings in the American Idol video game for Wii. M and I give it two thumbs up for sure! If you like Tina Fey, be sure to also catch Mean Girls....from back when Lindsay Lohan was still normal.

fo shizz people, it's that easy!

So it's my sister-in-law's birthday dinner tonight. I realized, I bought the present, but had no wrapping paper. I couldn't very well give her the gift in a plastic Safeway bag. Then I was like....ah, SNAP!, I totally have a solution. Thanks to my sister S and Garnish, I packaged the whole thing up in one of their white gable boxes (only $1.50!), slapped on some ribbon (thank you Martha Stewart), printed my greeting of choice on a round scalloped card (thank you Paper Source), found some random scrapbooking stuff, and I have the best wrapped gift ever! Plus, sister-in-law can reuse the box....hello...can you say eco-friendly!!

my old Kentucky home...

Tomorrow is the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby. I don't know why, but I love to watch the race. I don't follow horse racing, and I know nothing about the horses. It just seems that every year, on the first Saturday in May, I always watch. Those sappy montages about the horses, the trainers and the jockeys on NBC always suck me in!

What I would really like to do, is go to the Kentucky Derby! I have been to the races before, and it's lots of fun to place your $2 bets. I can only imagine the Derby would be a thousand times more exciting. Not too mention it's all about the hats! I LOVE hats, but don't have enough nerve to wear one. I have a fantastic hat sitting in my closet, complete with fancy embellishment, that I got on sale, on sale....I thought I would wear it to a wedding or something, but always chicken out at the last minute.

So, I solemnly swear, that if you want to take me to the Kentucky Derby, I will wear a hat, together with a perfectly appropriate outfit...perhaps like this...

the hat: Ellie by Christine A. Moore as found at Hats in the Belfrey - $450

dress: Lafayette 148 New York as seen at Neiman Marcus - $448

shoes: Miu Miu Patent Double Strap Mary Jane as at Neiman Marcus - $450

Yikes! Apparently going to the Derby will cost me a small fortune...you'd better give me lots of time to save up. I guess I'm also going to have to learn to love a mint julep, as this is the official drink of the Kentucky Derby. It's a mixture of whiskey and mint...I'm not quite understanding the enjoyment here?

laughing out loud!

I just started reading Postcards From Yo Momma yesterday. OMG, this is hilarious!! People send in their actual emails and letters from their mothers, and it's priceless. Here is one of the posts from today...

Shorty
I was in the car listening to the radio, and who is this “shorty” they keep talking about in rap songs?

Holy crab cakes that's funny! I also think the writer has published these into a book...how perfect for Mother's Day.

the "Manshower"

I've been meaning to blog about a letter I received in the mail the other day because it is quite hilarious. I was being invited to a "manshower" for a man I worked with who is getting married. Isn't this fabulous, the guy is the one with the shower. In all of the bridal gown fittings, hair and make-up trials, meal testing, invitations and pedicures - they haven't forgotten the groom!!!!

So, the invitaiton read like this:

It's a MANSHOWER
No!!! It does not involve dirty men.
No!!! It is not raining men.
No!!! It is not a shower fixture of male configurations.
Official definition:
A man shower is a special gift-giving party for a Groom-To-Be where we enjoy some food and drink, have a few laughs and share some of our best/worst wedding moments...let's be careful though, we don't want to scare the poor guy.
(then all the details)

So, let's not forget the men we're marrying and those we are close to who are getting married, it's about them too (well, sort of).

today I'm loving

Right now I'm totally into these cool pillow boxes from Field and Sea. They are perfect for packaging jewelry, small trinkets or even gift cards. A perfect thing to think of on this first day of May....Mother's Day is right around the corner!
