Rethink the bouquet?

I just picked up the latest issue of Canadian Gardening yesterday. The hanging basket on the cover really caught my eye. I love the colours. I LOVE the fact that you don't have to water it very much even more! That's perfect for me, because though I'm very enthusiastic about gardening at the beginning of the season, a few weeks in I get kind of bored.

Wouldn't these colours be perfect for a wedding...and florals combined with succulents would be very elegant! So, I did a search on some pictures for inspiration, and here we go....

I'm thinking a burlap table cloth, and maybe antique silver or antique gold accents. Here is a colour palette for some inspiration:

guilt over perogies

Ok...so, I have to admit I have not been pulling my weight as of late sharing in the posts on our blog. All of the fab posts being put up in recent months have been by C and are super as always. She is a style guru, suberb crafter and everyone's "go to girl" for design ideas to inspiration. Besides all that she is my best friend!

I was browsing the Real Simple website and they have a "flower finder"...though it is pretty basic it gives you a head start to finding the types of flowers you could be looking for, depending on the season. Myself, I'm not one to sticking with "colours according to season". I think a little ingenuity and creativity aren't based on the time of year, and you can pretty much incorporate any colour or look into any celebration.

finally, something different!

Please check out this wedding. I love the vibe, love the bridesmaids, love the photographer (Matthew Morgan). It has a casual fun feel, but the bride still looks elegant...I wish I was a guest, it looks like it would of been a lot of fun!

floral fantasy!

Beautiful Blooms, based in Philadelphia, is like porn for floral lovers! I love, LOVE their floral design. Beautiful Blooms is made up of a team of designers, and I truly think their designs are unique. And not only do they do flowers, they provide chairs, chair covers and linens...bringing the total package together. They are also a 2008 pick from The Knot Best of Weddings. Please be sure to visit their site for lots of inspiration!

This first set of pictures is my very favorite! I love the black and white combination, I LOVE the tablecloth and the hits of silver bring it all together.

I really like these colour and floral combinations. Look at the fantastic poppies in the centerpieces!

The prettiest of pinks...I love the soft pattern on the bridesmaids dresses. How cool is this greenery on the place cards table! The floral arbor is definitely one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen...do you think I can fit that in my office?

preppy love

I picked up this "collector's" edition of Martha Stewart Weddings the other day. I love Martha, but I kind of found a lack of new ideas in this one. I know it's a collection of ideas from all of her Weddings magazines, but I was pretty uninspired. However, I did LOVE the cover! Avocado Kiss is currently working on a set of invites (I promise to post some pictures soon), and the pink and green preppy combo, was my jumping off point. I know that both of these colours are pretty popular in wedding decor, but I found this particular combo really new. Perhaps it's brightness of the green and very pale pink...or the fact that it's mostly green, a brave choice!

Here are some pieces I've pulled together for this look:

some floral inspiration...ranunculus, my MOST favorite flower, mixed with some green mums

green flowers from Hostess With The Mostess

bridal gown from Ann Taylor

suit from J.Crew

seersucker bridesmaid's dress from Thread Design

I think everything works together to create a preppy, but posh wedding. Perfect for a summer celebration, or for saying your vows on the beach!

inspiration

I love this colour scheme...Martha calls in "Cameo and Black", I call it pretty! I usually find that if you are going to use black as a part of your wedding, you need to balance it out with something very soft, and this palest of pinks is just perfect!

pretty in pink

Not only is "Pretty In Pink" one of my all-time favourite movies, it's also probably one of the most popular wedding colours. Sometimes pink can be a little sugary for my taste (I say that now, it was a major colour in my wedding!), but when done right, pink can be so pretty. Here are some of my favourite pink wedding moments, courtesy of Martha.

today is sponsored by the colour green

We are using this colour swatch, from the Pantone Spring 2008 colour trends, as inspiration for today. We'll try and post a few different wedding elements that pay homage to this fab colour. Our first is about flowers...

So Happy....

Something about these flowers makes me so happy! And isn't that what we're supposed to feel like on our wedding day? I think what I like most about this bouquet of clematis and narcissus, is the simplicity of the flowers. I love the punch of apricot, not a colour you see very often in bridal bouquets. Hopefully we'll be able to showcase lots of different floral ideas, something a little different than white and pink roses (not to say that there is anything wrong with tradition), and certainly lots of flowers that will make you smile!
