The new fashion season is upon us. Yay! That means lots of new wedding dresses and bridesmaids fashions to browse. I have noticed that the "trend" for wedding dresses is short hemlines. I love that idea, and think that if I were to do it again, that might just be something I choose, with a smart birdcage veil and an amazing pair of shoes!
But, today's post is all about the maids. I was checking out the 2009 look book from Jenny Yoo, and fell in love. All of these dresses would be perfect for a bridesmaid, a guest, or even the bride herself, depending on the style of wedding you are going for.

My favorites are the red and the yellow dresses...what are yours?

finally, something different!

Please check out this wedding. I love the vibe, love the bridesmaids, love the photographer (Matthew Morgan). It has a casual fun feel, but the bride still looks elegant...I wish I was a guest, it looks like it would of been a lot of fun!

Fashion Tuesday...

I didn't really know this, but Nicole Miller makes wedding dresses. She's not really a designer you find advertising in bridal mags...and if so, usually for bridesmaid's dresses. Of course, then I realized that M wore a Nicole Miller dress, and thought I would do some further investigation!

Be sure to check out the Nicole Miller website here....

fall forward?
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm looking forward to some fall fashion from J.Crew. I know, I shouldn't get ahead of myself, I love summer so much, but I was totally inspired by my new J. Crew catalogue. I think it's a fall preview, though there was no title on the cover, and it's not online yet.
What's even better, is they had a great feature on their bridal fashion. There is a new dress, which is to die for, and I love the chocolate and purple (or aubergine, so sophisticated!) combo, a totally new look for brown! Here's a peek...
And finally, what I aspire my fall fashion to be....chic, effortless and all about cashmere (now, I just need the wallet for cashmere!)

ruffles
While watching Fashion File, I learned that ruffles are a big trend this season. So I decided to do a little investigating, and see how this carried over into the bridal world. This is what I found:

canary yellow
luxedeluxe.etsy.com $32.00
littlesweetpeas.etsy.com $160.00
lovelulumae.etsy.com $107.00I have completely fallen in love with this shade of yellow...I picture it mixed with creams and golds and maybe some muddy khaki. There are so many possibilities...it could be your main colour or just used as an accent. I found all these cool accessories on etsy and I will keep looking for some inspiring wedding gowns and suits in order to give you an entire picture. I did find some beautiful gowns by Nicole Miller though I couldn't post the pictures.

preppy love

I picked up this "collector's" edition of Martha Stewart Weddings the other day. I love Martha, but I kind of found a lack of new ideas in this one. I know it's a collection of ideas from all of her Weddings magazines, but I was pretty uninspired. However, I did LOVE the cover! Avocado Kiss is currently working on a set of invites (I promise to post some pictures soon), and the pink and green preppy combo, was my jumping off point. I know that both of these colours are pretty popular in wedding decor, but I found this particular combo really new. Perhaps it's brightness of the green and very pale pink...or the fact that it's mostly green, a brave choice!
Here are some pieces I've pulled together for this look:

so easy...
First of all, I have to tell you my love of catalogues that come in the mail! I live in Canada, and every time I visit my sister S in Massachusetts, I love getting the mail everyday and sorting through the zillion catalogues! We just don't get those here. One of the few that arrives in my mailbox, is J. Crew. I just received the new one, which is all about beach chic...and it makes me want to buy everything in it! J. Crew has come a long way from khakis and t-shirts, and I am loving their bridal line (I only wish it was around when I got married!). I have put together one of my favourite looks for the bride and her maids....check it out.

today is sponsored by the colour green
We are using this colour swatch, from the Pantone Spring 2008 colour trends, as inspiration for today. We'll try and post a few different wedding elements that pay homage to this fab colour. Our first is about flowers...

speaking of Target

Did you know that Target sold wedding dresses!!! That Isaac Mizrahi, always thinking. So if you feel that spending $3000 on a wedding dress is not your thing, you can pick one up at Target fo $129. And why stop there...there are wedding veils, jewelery and bridesmaid dresses. All the bridesmaid dresses are under $50, so really, if they never wear it again, it's not a huge loss.

What a great idea for a destination wedding. Less money on the dress, more money on the idyllic beach location! I'm pretty sure that the wedding dresses are available on-line only, but Target has a great return policy, so you have nothing to lose. If anyone has seen one of the dresses in person, please let me know, I'm interested to learn more!
