Rethink the bouquet?

I just picked up the latest issue of Canadian Gardening yesterday. The hanging basket on the cover really caught my eye. I love the colours. I LOVE the fact that you don't have to water it very much even more! That's perfect for me, because though I'm very enthusiastic about gardening at the beginning of the season, a few weeks in I get kind of bored.

Wouldn't these colours be perfect for a wedding...and florals combined with succulents would be very elegant! So, I did a search on some pictures for inspiration, and here we go....

I'm thinking a burlap table cloth, and maybe antique silver or antique gold accents. Here is a colour palette for some inspiration:

going for gold

No, this is not another post about the Olympics...it's time for some more colour inspiration! Today we're talking gold. It's the perfect colour for a fall or winter wedding. You can use varying shades of gold, or do a classic black and gold for a more formal look. Here are some pictures to inspire you. The invitation is from Avocado Kiss Stationery + Design, the other three pics are from The Knot.

red hot!

Here is another colour combo for some inspiration. The colour of the day is red. Now, I think I've said this before, red is probably my least favorite colour used at weddings. But, it seems my opinion might be changing. There are so many new ways to use red besides the traditional winter wedding combo of red and white. I'm LOVING red and turquoise, or different shades of red used together, and even red and gold.

Though I couldn't find any pictures for today (I will keep searching), red also makes me think of the rich jewel tones found in Indian saris and fabrics. A perfect red, combined with a deep orange and yellow could be really nice too. Hmmm...now I'm inspired, by my own blog post, how awesome is that!

mellow yellow

We thought we would do some features on colour combinations.  Colour plays such an important role in a wedding...it's the jumping off point for all of your decor, flowers and even what you are going to wear.  So whether you choose a simple black and white theme or fuschia and orange theme, the colour you choose will set the mood.

One of the hottest colours out there right now is yellow.  I was shopping yesterday with my sister
S, and I noticed that yellow is in every store....from what's leftover from summer, to all the new fall fashions. (On a side note, we found the perfect jeans at J. Crew...the low slung boy cut for me which are soooo soft, don't gape and are just right, the matchstick for S which make her look soooo skinny, perfect!)  The thing I love about yellow is there are so many shades, from lemon to mustard.  Also, yellow is perfect for any season!  Here are some of my favorite pictures from The Knot...

What is your favorite colour combination?  Leave us a comment or send us an email to avocado_kiss {at} yahoo.ca....we would love to hear from you!  Keep checking back for more colour inspiration!

floral fantasy!

Beautiful Blooms, based in Philadelphia, is like porn for floral lovers! I love, LOVE their floral design. Beautiful Blooms is made up of a team of designers, and I truly think their designs are unique. And not only do they do flowers, they provide chairs, chair covers and linens...bringing the total package together. They are also a 2008 pick from The Knot Best of Weddings. Please be sure to visit their site for lots of inspiration!

This first set of pictures is my very favorite! I love the black and white combination, I LOVE the tablecloth and the hits of silver bring it all together.

I really like these colour and floral combinations. Look at the fantastic poppies in the centerpieces!

The prettiest of pinks...I love the soft pattern on the bridesmaids dresses. How cool is this greenery on the place cards table! The floral arbor is definitely one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen...do you think I can fit that in my office?

my current obsession

Ever since M brought over this month's Domino Magazine, I can't get this picture out of my head, not to mention that now I totally want to redo a room in my house with this whole look!

I know that she already did a post about her favorite things...but this picture made me think that this would be a very cool colour scheme for a wedding.

love it...

So, I said I would follow up with some great wedding gowns that could possibly go well with the canary yellow and I found them!!! I am completely in love with these Vera Wang dresses and they could absolutely go with any colour or look or anything really, they are just super fantastic (for lack of better chic adjectives). Whether you go out looking for these specific designer pieces or you use them for inspiration you'll look fab.

luxedeluxe.etsy.com $32.00

littlesweetpeas.etsy.com $160.00

lovelulumae.etsy.com $107.00

ananya.etsy.com $42.00

I have completely fallen in love with this shade of yellow...I picture it mixed with creams and golds and maybe some muddy khaki. There are so many possibilities...it could be your main colour or just used as an accent. I found all these cool accessories on etsy and I will keep looking for some inspiring wedding gowns and suits in order to give you an entire picture. I did find some beautiful gowns by Nicole Miller though I couldn't post the pictures.

preppy love

I picked up this "collector's" edition of Martha Stewart Weddings the other day. I love Martha, but I kind of found a lack of new ideas in this one. I know it's a collection of ideas from all of her Weddings magazines, but I was pretty uninspired. However, I did LOVE the cover! Avocado Kiss is currently working on a set of invites (I promise to post some pictures soon), and the pink and green preppy combo, was my jumping off point. I know that both of these colours are pretty popular in wedding decor, but I found this particular combo really new. Perhaps it's brightness of the green and very pale pink...or the fact that it's mostly green, a brave choice!

Here are some pieces I've pulled together for this look:

inspiration palette

some floral inspiration...ranunculus, my MOST favorite flower, mixed with some green mums
ranunculus picture from here
green flowers from Hostess With The Mostess

bridal gown from Ann Taylor

suit from J.Crew

seersucker bridesmaid's dress from Thread Design

I think everything works together to create a preppy, but posh wedding. Perfect for a summer celebration, or for saying your vows on the beach!

inspiration

I love this colour scheme...Martha calls in "Cameo and Black", I call it pretty! I usually find that if you are going to use black as a part of your wedding, you need to balance it out with something very soft, and this palest of pinks is just perfect!

pretty in pink

Not only is "Pretty In Pink" one of my all-time favourite movies, it's also probably one of the most popular wedding colours. Sometimes pink can be a little sugary for my taste (I say that now, it was a major colour in my wedding!), but when done right, pink can be so pretty. Here are some of my favourite pink wedding moments, courtesy of Martha.

more colour inspiration

I've found another website for colour inspiration ( I know I saw it on one of the blogs I subscribe to, but can't think which one!). Colour Lovers not only offers inspiring colour palettes, but also patterns.
